Florida homestead question of the day
Why are my chickens laying fewer eggs in summer?
Heat stress, hydration, nutrition, age, molt, illness and daylight can all reduce laying.
Egg production is a whole-flock signal, not a diagnosis by itself. Sudden changes deserve a review of environment, feed and health.
What to do
- Compare production with temperature and molt records.
- Confirm unlimited complete feed and clean water.
- Check shade, ventilation, parasites and body condition.
- Inspect individual hens when the decline is abrupt.
