Mark before cutting
- Ground clearance: 3–4 inches
- Wall clearance: at least 6 inches
- Stack height: below shoulder height and stable
- Supports: beneath every pallet stringer
Build it in order
Step-by-step instructions
Read the entire plan before making the first cut or hole. The check under each step tells you when it is ready to move forward.

Read the pallet mark
Choose a clean pallet marked HT with no stains, odor, spill history or unknown treatment.

Inspect every board
Remove protruding fasteners and replace split deck boards or reject the pallet.

Prepare level supports
Set pavers beneath all stringers on firm drained ground under cover.

Set airflow clearances
Leave room behind, beside and above the pallet for inspection and air movement.

Load gradually
Stack one stable row at a time and stop well below an unstable height.

Create a cleanup routine
Sweep bark and leaves, rotate old wood and inspect for insects and moisture.

Keep it useful
- Keep the main wood supply at the fire-safe distance recommended locally.
- Cover rain from above while leaving sides open.
- Replace the pallet when boards soften.

Know when to stop
- Never burn pallet wood.
- Do not use stained, MB-marked or unknown pallets.
- Keep wood away from ignition sources and exits.
