Methodology and limits
Ready.gov uses one gallon per person per day as a general emergency-kit starting point. Animal defaults are intentionally editable planning assumptions; heat, body size, lactation, diet and health can change consumption substantially.
Measure high-demand days on your own homestead. Include cleaning and cooling water separately when those uses matter, and use food-safe storage for drinking water.
