Start with the shape of the decline

Record eggs per day, flock size, ages, weather, molt, feed changes and broody hens. A slow change over weeks creates a different question from a sudden stop across several pens.

Check for hidden nests and predators before treating every missing egg as a laying failure.

Connect production to Florida heat

During sustained heat, birds may eat less and spend more time coping. If complete-feed intake falls, egg production and shell quality can change.

Improve the underlying shade, airflow and water system rather than chasing egg count with treats.

Account for molt, daylight and age

Molt can pause or reduce laying while feathers regrow. Shorter days can also reduce production, and older hens usually do not follow the same pattern as first-year layers.

Some keepers add artificial light, but that choice affects management and bird rest. Use qualified guidance rather than presenting uninterrupted laying as a requirement.

Escalate when production is part of a larger change

A drop paired with respiratory signs, swelling, discoloration, diarrhea, incoordination or sudden deaths needs prompt professional and potentially official animal-health guidance.
