Our pH timeline
The first problem was obvious: readings around 8.1 were far from the acidic conditions blueberries generally need. After acidifying efforts, our readings moved into roughly 4.6 to 5.9. Later they climbed again, reaching approximately 7.6 to 8.5.
Those numbers taught us to separate a temporary reading from a stable growing system.

Why pH can rebound
Irrigation water can carry alkalinity that repeatedly pushes a container or bed upward. Native soil moving into a planting area, incomplete mixing, liming materials nearby and the natural buffering of the mix can also resist change.
Testing method matters too. Different moisture, sampling depth, meters and calibration can create readings that should not be compared casually.

Why we returned the bushes to pots
A container does not automatically solve blueberry pH, but it limits the root-zone volume and separates the mix from more of the surrounding soil. That made observation and corrective decisions more manageable for us.
We still have to monitor water, drainage, roots and the mix. A pot is a controlled starting point, not a permanent exemption from chemistry.

The plants later flowered
After the move and continued care, we saw flowering. We treat that as an encouraging plant response, not proof that every pH issue is finished or that a full crop is guaranteed.
Plant appearance, calibrated measurements and long-term trend belong together.

What we would do differently
We would test irrigation water earlier, calibrate meters on schedule, take repeat samples from the actual root zone and keep written dates with every amendment. We would also avoid making several changes at once.
The goal is not to chase one perfect number. It is to understand the direction and the source of the change.
